The Danger Zone - also known as: a ranking in the Top 5.
Week 1: Oklahoma (formerly #3) falls to BYU
Week 2: Oklahoma State (formerly #5) falls to Houston
Week 3: USC (formerly #3) falls to Washington
Week 4: Ole Miss (formerly #5) falls to South Carolina
Call me crazy, but I'd give anything to not be ranked in the top 5 right now.
Couple of big ones to look out for this weekend:
Miami @ Va. Tech
Florida @ Kentucky (Go Cats!)
Iowa @ Penn State (the curse of the #5 ranking?)

Competitors vs. Pretenders
I know it's been a while...I've been licking my wounds from the first two weeks of misery, but I'm back in action. Loving every minute of...THE season.
Last Saturday morning on College Gameday, Desmond Howard said he always loves week 3 because that's when you can tell who is a Contender, and who is a PRE-tender.
Here's my shout out to both of these groups:
Pretender: USC
PAH-lease. USC's loss on Saturday to Washington mark 2 years in a row of them coming off of the OSU win to lose to an un-ranked team. So they can pull out the stops when they need to, but where's the depth? Drowning in the puddles of Seattle.
Contender: Georgia
I've watched the first 3 Georgia games of the year and the sheer fact that they have the stamina to play 4 hour football games and still keep the trick-plays and 2-point conversions coming make them a contender in my book.
Pretender: WVU
I know, who cares about WVU? The truth is that no one does. But during the Auburn game I kept getting texts from my friend Clay who was having encounters with WVU fans who said the following things:
--Ohio State is afraid to put WVU on their schedule
--Frank Beamer is afraid to play WVU now that VT is in the ACC
I mean, what?!?
Contender: Virginia Tech
I still think VT is a good football team, that's a bit immature, but could shock the world. The last 2 minutes of Saturdays game prove they have what it takes....
Pretender: BYU
What a bunch of whinies. Every story out of the book these days is about BYU deserving the same respect as everyone else. Sorry kids, you don't. Florida State beat you. At home. Stop pretending.
Contender: Miami
All 4 years of college I feared the Miami game. They were awwwwwesome. Then the whole Florida A&M fight with the helmet throwing happened and we haven't heard much from Miami the past few years. They started un-ranked and have gone to beat two ranked teams in a row: Florida State (AT FSU) and Georgia Tech. They take on the Hokies this week, and I'm scared.

Super-Fan
Could it be that we're already ready for another weekend filled with college football games? Why, yes it could!
I don't know about you, but week 1 was EXCITING! And a little stressful for quite a few fans.
I often have friends joke on me about being a college football "super-fan." I am Super, and I am a fan so I can't really disagree. I also do crazy things like become an ESPN-insider for 3 months so I can be knowledgable on everything about the season, check espn.com on an hourly basis and watch pretty much every game throughout the weekend. I thought no one could top me. But this weekend, I was proved wrong.
My friend Lane is a huge Georgia fan and for some reason unknown to many of us, ABC ran the Michigan/Western Michigan game instead of Georgia vs. Oklahoma State on Saturday. I know, the former Capital of the Confederacy ran the Michgan game. Weird. We couldn't really understand it. Lane was bummed, that's for sure. After a short search with her Comcast remote, she learned she could purchase the entire college football season for a minimal (okay, semi-minimal) fee. And you know what? She did it. She ordered the entire college football package on Comcast. She now has access to every game of the season, so she's not only a super-fan, but she's now my Idol.
Lane, I'll see you Saturday!

What to watch
Good morning fellow College Football Obsessees!
Here's a quick break-down for you of the can't-miss games for this, our first weekend of heaven:
Thursday 9/3
Oregon/Boise State – ESPN 360
Flip to South Carolina / NC State on ESPN during commercials
Saturday 9/5
ESPN College Gameday is Live from Atlanta for the Alabama/Virginia Tech game
12:00 – Navy/ (6) OSU – ESPN 360
Honestly, there aren’t any games for you to flip to during this game…hence, why NAVY is on the roster for “games to watch”
3:30pm – (13) Georgia/ (9) Oklahoma State – ABC
Flip to Western Michigan/Michigan during commercials (I'm thinking a possible replay of the App. State game...or at least seeing Rich Rod cry again)
8:00pm – (5) Alabama/ (7) Virginia Tech – ABC
Flip to (20) BYU / (3) Oklahoma on ESPN during commericals or if you want a glance at the pre-season favorites, #1 Florida is taking on Bucky the Buconneer of Charelston-Southern.

Chomping at the bit
Last night I went to visit my friend Matt and as we were catching up on all of the latest life gossip, the conversation quickly turned to College football starting this week. He was telling the tales of his plans for the South Carolina/NC State game this weekend in Raleigh and immediately handed me an article in GQ about Tim Tebow. My whole demeanor and attitude quickly changed as my lack of love for Tim Tebow became apparent.
I've always thought the reason I can't stand Tebow is because I don't want him to take away the "2-time Heisman trophy winner" name from my boy, Archie. However, I'm a huge supporter of Sam Bradford going for #2 this year, so that must not be my reason.......
I find a lot of people are black or white about Tebow - and a lot of college football players for that matter. Why is it we develop such strong feelings against a bunch of young kids out there playing their hearts out?
I'm all for rivalries and the tradition that comes with them, but I also think as fans we could all work a little harder to support even our rivals. Am I right?
I will say though....if you start doing the "Gator Chomp" in my face or holding your hand up to your ear like a phone, I may have few choice names for you....I mean, we're only human! :)
